Our approach

A child is not a diagnosis. A community is not inclusive until the child belongs there. MANSHAIL’s inclusion work supports children with developmental, intellectual and other disabilities and the families alongside them. We are particularly attentive to the needs and dignity of girls with Down syndrome. Our ambition extends beyond a specialist room: children should be able to learn, play, travel, create friendships and join everyday community life.

Two Things Must Happen Together

The child and family receive support. Need-led education, developmental-learning activities, family orientation, practical guidance and referrals to qualified speech, occupational, special-education or rehabilitation professionals as appropriate. The environment becomes more welcoming. Schools, neighbours, peers, recreation spaces and community activities learn practical ways to include children without stigma or token treatment.

Our Girl-Child Commitment

A girl with Down syndrome is entitled to friendship, play, dignity, choice, accessible education, appropriate health information, boundaries, safety and self-expression. We encourage age-appropriate participation and avoid public disclosure of her private developmental or medical history.

What Participation May Include

Inclusive art and community events, caregiver sessions, suitable group learning, communication and independence skills, referrals to qualified specialists and awareness workshops with everyday venues. Offerings depend on qualified staff, age and individual needs, safeguarding and programme availability.
